WebMay 16, 2008 · Keep in mind that you'll need a dial indicator to accurately set the BTDC dimension before moving the coil/stator plate assembly (magneto). In a nutshell, you set the points first (if it has them) then set the piston to the appropriate BTDC position, then loosen the stator plate and rotate it until the points just open. The "correct" way to deal with a bad CPS is to replace the sensor/stator assembly, but I think some people have found a way around it. There is a thread here on the sensor/stator issue and on oil in the stator area.
